Jeff Mendelson

Director

Jeff is a specialist in corporate and individual financial distress, with deep, hands-on expertise in liquidations, business rescue, and financial turnaround strategy. He has represented some of South Africa’s most prominent liquidators and business rescue practitioners, and has played a central role in uncovering multimillion-rand frauds, Ponzi schemes, and complex money laundering operations. His work has led to the recovery of significant funds for the benefit of creditors — many of whom were misled or left exposed through no fault of their own.
Jeff’s approach is grounded in strategic thinking, sharp analysis, and direct communication. He thrives in high-pressure environments where business and the law intersect — advising stakeholders on how to protect their interests, recover value, and navigate complex legal and commercial risks.
While his core focus lies in insolvency-related matters, Jeff is also highly experienced in commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and general corporate advisory. He brings the same rigour, responsiveness, and client-first mindset to every matter, regardless of size or complexity.

Chris Matthews is an associate at Mendelson Attorneys, with a rare combination of drive, maturity, and practical experience. Having started his articles in 2021, he quickly took on substantial responsibility — independently managing a broad portfolio of clients and handling complex legal matters with confidence and clarity.
Chris has a strong foundation in commercial litigation and corporate advisory work, and brings a sharp, analytical mindset to every matter. His calm demeanour, strategic thinking, and commitment to client service make him a valuable asset to the Mendelsons team.
